Unless you have been living under a rock for the past three years, you have heard of Twitter. A question many people ask me is simple, how can you make money with twitter? The social media platform that allows users the opportunity to connect with others in real time about anything they want. If you are interested in what someone is saying you may follow them, which means that every time they tweet out, you will see it on your homepage (when you login to Twitter). People have always been obsessed with numbers, and the Twitter follower count is no different, the more you have the more recognized you become, but how can you monetize that follower count and make money with Twitter? Sponsored tweets is an Izea company, started by web celebrity Ted Murphy, which allows people to send out tweets for money (in essence). It works by allowing companies to setup campaigns, and ask certain people to tweet about their services. They will give you whatever your asking price is, and once they have reviewed your ad copy, sponsored tweets will tweet it out automatically. The price is in your account is recommended by sponsored tweets, and you can rest assured that if you set it to some absurd amount, you will not be getting any requests to tweet out for companies. This is a great business model, and I am not sure how much the company takes for itself (if you set your price at $1, you get $1), but I would assume that this is a great benefit for the publishers, advertisers, and izea. I have not been using this service for a long enough period of time to know everything about it, but I can tell you that as long as I am able to increase my price and still get advertisers as I get more and more followers, I will be using this service for a long time to come.

Making Money from Twitter Properly
Now that you know where you can go to make money with twitter, you need to know how to use it properly. First and foremost you want to make sure that you are not abusing Twitter for advertising purposes. The main reason here, is the fact that the people following you at one point or another found something interesting that you said, and decided that they wanted to hear from you in the future. Dont you think that you will loose their followership and/or trust if you decide to simply spam ads all of the time? I know that I personally unfollow everyone who posts nothing but ads. It is annoying, and provides no benefit to the rest of the twitter community. Instead, I would recommend that you tweet out an ad once every 100 or so tweets. So for me, if I accomplish my 10,000 tweets in 60 days, I will have sent out 100 ads, and if they all offer $1 a piece, that is an extra hundred bucks, not bad at all. This ratio is not gospel and can be tinkered with as you see fit, I am just stating the fact that if you decide that you want to make $100 on Twitter, and post 100 messages that are 100 ads for that purpose, you will reach your goal, you will not however have any followers to tweet to in the future.

Luckily you are not given the opportunity for constant tweeting (unless you have a higher up account, im not sure) and if you get an offer per day that would seem like a good deal for you, so its hard to abuse the service itself.

Getting more followers the right way
I talked about how to get more twitter followers a while back, and will be putting up part 2 in some time here, but if you dont want to re-read what I wrote back then I will sum it up here. The concept is simple, interaction breeds success. If you are interested in ncaa basketball, and more specifically the Syracuse Orangemen (like me :) ) then go to Twitter and search for syracuse orange basketball, and send an @ reply and (if you want) follow every single person on that list. I can assure you that people with similar interest who you reach out to first, will follow you back, and you can rest assured that having 1000 followers that you have interacted with in the past, is a million times more powerful than having 10,000 followers that you mass followed at one point or another.

At then end of the day if you want to make money with twitter, I would recommend keeping it discrete and really balance it well. You want to keep your ad out there for as long as possible so the advertiser gets clicks, and you can eventually raise your price, you do not however want to keep it out there so long, and then send out another one so that you look like a spammer. I know for me personally, if I get make $1k a month from Twitter, while keeping my interactions and followers, I will be very happy.
