Blog Mistakes You May be Making

Many bloggers today feel the need to follow every trend, and write about things that they may know very little about. For this reason I am a firm believer that blogging has become very saturated due to these blog mistakes that people are making. Luckily if you stop making these mistakes you can improve your blog and begin to make money blogging which may have otherwise not been a real option for you.

1. Dont copy everyone elses content
Now I realize that most people probably dont sit there and go from blog to blog copying every word of every article, but one thing that happens is people tend to hear of something happening and write about it in the wrong way. By the wrong way I mean they try to “report” the news. The reality is people go to ESPN for sporting news, they go to CNN for political news, and so on and so forth. If you are interested in starting a blog I would advise you to not simply re tell the story that you just saw on the TV, because no one cares, everyone knows about it. BUT what you can do is be original and give your opinions and insights on the topic at hand. As you see with me on FotiSports, I dont deliver the news, I just discuss it, and it works.

2. Dont Clutter your site with useless buttons and what not
This one is simple. Their are hundreds of thousands of cool little buttons out there, and 99% of them are either useless, or ugly and wont fit your blog is ugly as well, which hopefully is not the case. One thing that you want to try and focus in on with a blog is every time some clicks away from your site you should be making money. I have Entrecard (which I will remove in a few months), but other than that it is all affiliate offers and PPC ads. The idea is for someone to leave your site, they must either close the browser window, OR click on something that ultimately will make you money. Having all these buttons and giving users the opportunity to click away without gaining anything, is a huge blogging mistake.

3. Not Posting Often Enough
I am obviously the biggest “at fault” person out there when it comes to this. I tend to post often for months on end, and then all of a sudden I just stop. This is why guys like John Chow (love him or hate him), Shoemoney, etc. have been able to make alot of money for a long time in the blogsphere. They post often and make their posts useful to their readers. Obviously with this 30 posts in 30 days challenge I am posting a ton, but the real challenge will be to see whether or not I can keep it up for the next 12 months, 2 years, etc.

4. Not Building Community
This is the last one, and I think its the most important and that is the fact that most people do not take the time to build community with their readers. They have feedburner and get subscriptions and what not, but when their is 1,000 comments on one of their blog posts, they simply do not take the time to answer EVERY SINGLE PERSON. Be aware that if you leave a comment on my blog, send me a tweet, email me, or contact me in any other way for whatever reason, I will always respond to you. You are important to me, without you I would be writing and reading to myself, so I owe it to you to respond and build community with you.

Those are my four biggest blog mistakes that people may or may not make.
